This is an amazing 3rd effort from this post modern hardcore band. Spoken have managed to break out of the Rage Against the Machine clone mode and create a devestating release of emotional hardcore mixed with
some light rapcore influence. The style here is similar to that of a mix of bands like Rage Against the Machine, Disciple and Project 86. The RATM factor is still prevelant in the screamed vocals but outside of that the band seems
to have successfully created their own sound. The vocal approach is a great blend of hardcore screams and haunting singing that stirs the emotions. In a couple tracks the vocals (and music) even remind me a bit of Tool. Overall I
really dig this cd, a lot more than I expected! It is an eclectic hybrid of sounds, from dominating crunchy guitar riffs and unique bass lines to a solid drum sound that encompases all that is great in the modern hard music scene.
Produced by (the now infamous) Barry Poynter, the production is nothing short of flawless. Seems that Poynters Palace in Little Rock is the new mecca for metalcore bands these days. As far as lyrics are concerned this cd is 100%
about Christ. The only cd I have heard in recent months with this much emphasis on praise is the latest Disciple cd. -- Review by Norm |
