Shining Star - Fatal Mistake (2001)
This is one of the years finest metal releases. Guitar wizard Fabio Rocha has put together his first disc of incredible Christian power metal. Featuring members of the secular band Dr. Sin, "Fatal Mistake" is by far one of the best albums I have heard come out of the ever growing Brasillian metal scene. The music on this disc is straight forward power metal with a lot of classic 80's influences. The guitar work is amazing in the style of Yngwie Malmsteen. As a matter of fact the songs on here remind me a lot of Malmsteen's critically acclaimed 1989 release "Odyssey". The guest vocalist, Nando Fernandes, stays mostly in a mid-range style similar to that of Rob Rock and Ronnie James Dio. The tunes within are found to be commercial and appealing yet staying completely true to the power genre. All instruments and vocals are executed quite well and I can not wait to hear more from this band! Recommended for fans of Malmsteen, Narnia, Dio and Rob Rock. -- Review by Norm
