Lordian Guard - Lordian Guard (1995)

This cd is a great example of "medieval" power metal featuring a strong "renaissance" feel. The guitars and keyboards are dark and gothic at times and light and airy at others. William J. Tsamis (formerly of the secular band Warlord) handles all the guitar and keyboard parts. There are a couple tracks like "My name is man" that utilize a lot of acoustic guitar and carry a strong celtic feel all the while retaining the strong metal foundation which this disc is built upon. Other songs have spoken narration intro's making for a dark story-like atmosphere. Overall there are great guitar leads and melodies and good strong production. The ONLY downfall
here is the female vocalist who sounds very monotone most of the time (except during the tack "Lost Archangel" where she utilizes a higher range). The songs are truly epic with chanting refrains like "We hail to the Lord our king". -- Review by Norm
