Kohllapse  - Distant Mind Alternative (1999)

I consider this release to be one of the most original and artistic pieces I have heard in a very long time. It is completely genre defying and can not be labeled. DMA is the second release from this Australian band who's influences seem to range from techno to goth to doom with their roots firmly planted in metal. The sonics and production on this are far better than their self-titled debut cd. The sound is very big and full. This time around Kohllapse has ventured a more experimental route, adding electronic sounds and keyboards to the guitar heavy rhythms giving the music an ambient and textured feel. The musical soundscape twists and turns like a well read dramatic novel. Songs like "Seven" start off with an airy romantic appeal and slowly build to a peak of intense heaviness! Ro Edwards has a strong powerful voice that resonates with emotion and clarity, awakening the listeners senses. The lyrics are introspective and mature setting this apart from other bands in the realm of Christian metal. -- Review by Norm
