Eloi - Mold (1999)
HM Magazines favorite indie band of 1997 is back with their second full-length release. This is a great "modern metal" album. Addictive hooks, HUGE grooves, and powerful vocals abound! The musical style is slow and heavy power thrash along the lines of Eternal Decision. Vocally, Seth Poor pulls off a stunning performance sounding hard and aggressive at times and melodic and emotional at others. The melodic side of this band was obviously inspired by Kings X. The lyrics are bold, mature, soul searching and introspective. Lyrically I must say that there are very few "modern rock" bands that impress me this much. "Dreams collide, when we pull on the fragile heart strings Thoughts are turned to the past. We hope and pray, still a precious loved one dies. We can't hold on to these lives....... And I feel I'm being molded" - Lyrics from the title track "Mold". I have also heard that these guys are simply amazing live. So if you get a chance to see them play, don't miss it. -- Review by Norm
