Dwell - Prototypes (2000)

Dwell has earned my total respect not only by being the post modern industrial pioneers that they are but by having the utmost integrity in both thier music and in thier lyrics. The music on here is guitar driven heavy industrial with a bold focus on the gospel. The first track "Shout" is easily the most accessible and should earn this band a spot in heavy rotation on Christian rock radio stations across the country. The guitars are tight and have a lot of groove. All the while techno beats and eclectic samples weave in and out of the soundscape giving this recording an atmosphere not unlike early Circle of Dust. The vocals are quite original and the overall sound varies from song to song showing a vast array of influences. Dwell has managed to form thier own sound, borrowing influences but copying no one. Although this could be technicaly considered a demo (being a self-produced cd-r) it is far above most label releases both in musical craftsmanship and in production quality. It is easy to see why Dwell took so long in releasing this cd. They obviously wanted to hone the sound to perfection and that they have done. A very impressive piece of art. For fans of Wyrick, Circle of Dust, NIN, etc...-- review by Norm
