Drottnar - Spiritual Battle (2000)
Drottnar is a Christian black metal band that I think is probably the Christian answer to Darkthrone! At least in the time of hearing their latest album "Spiritual Battle". Mid paced black metal,
that so far is one of the best I have heard in this genre of Christian black metal! From what I understand, this is just re-released stuff from their previous 2 demo's. One of 3 songs that were released as a demo previously called
"A White Realm". The latter 4 on this is of the demo they did as a band called Vitality. Having never heard these guys before, I was very pleased in what I have heard! This 4 piece has put out some grim, dark, and almost
haunting type black metal! The 1st 3 songs are what black metal is about! "A White Realm", "Natten Pa Harmageddon", and "Spiritual
Battle" are very reminiscent of Darkthrone and older Satyricon. Raw
production to add to the beauty of the grimness this portrays. The next 4 songs are what I am assuming are from when they were Vitality. This is also very black metal influenced.. although not
as much as the previous songs.
There are more growly type vocals, but there are the black screams also. The growls are definitely of a grim type black metal growl that is still of a haunting feel that alot of black metal bands portray! Definitely a killer album
from 4 Christian black metallers from Norway! If you like Darkthrone, this is definitely your answer! A MUST have! -- Review by Shannon
