Let me just say that it won't be an easy thing to try and dodge the hardcore bullets these guys are launching at everything in their path. As if you didn't already know, these guys pull no punches when it
comes to both music and lyrics. Featuring members from No Innocent Victim, xDisciplex, Shockwave, and Cast in Stone, this latest offering from the "all-stars" of hardcore is a much better listen than their first e.p. We
still have those killer dueling vocals, only this time there's even more variety with several more guest appearances (not the least of which is Roger Miret of Agnostic Front). Of all the vocals on the record, I think I like those
of Dan Quiggle (xDisciplex) best, but it seems that his aren't as prevalent here as they were on the first record. Musically, there's nothing new or really exceptional, but this stuff is just darn fun to listen to! For lack of a
better description, this disc has some super-tough hardcore that makes me want to go cover my body in tattoos and put a bunch of stickers on my guitar. The production is much better this time around, and the music doesn't tread
nearly as close to the "line of cheese" that I thought the first one may have been in danger of crossing. The only real disappointment for me came with the lyrics. Yeah, you can tell from the song titles that they pretty
much maintain a typical "we're better than you because you're wrong" hardcore attitude, but they're just not nearly as bold in their faith as I hoped they would be. If you read them carefully from a decidedly Christian
perspective, the overtones are there, but I just expected more I guess. However, with that being said, I do think the song "Whining Rage" is really cool because it's pretty much a slap in the face to Rage Against the
Machine for preaching their brand of Communist anarchy while getting rich through good ol' capitalism. Once again, I have to say that Facedown has given us a winner here. To be sure, the disc is short, but that's hardcore for you
and I think it helps in avoiding overkill. Oh yeah, and don't forget to check out the hidden track at the end. Okay, so that one might be a little cheesy, but they manage to throw in an N.I.V. riff and the whole thing is just
stinkin' hilarious . . ."You lose sucka fool!" -- Review by Jason |
