Destra - Sea of Doubt (2000)

Quality progressive Christian metal bands are few and far between, especially ones that are this bold lyrically! Destra, from Brazil, has answered the call. Combining elements of classic metal with an extremly progressive flair their music is very similar in style to that of Dream Theater, Fates Warning and Teramaze. The cd features a couple mellow moments such as the moving ballad "The Chance", but for the most part this is mid-tempo prog metal. At times I feel that the vocals could have been a tad bit better and the music heavier but overall it's very good. The band blends artistic keyboards and heavy guitar riffing to create a soundscape that brings the listener into the world of Destra. The music is complex yet the choruses are catchy, a nice combination I must say. Fans of Dream Theater who have been searching for a Christian equivalent may have finally found it in Destra. The musicianship is top notch, the vocals are decent and the production is very good. I look forward to the future of Destra.
