Deliverance - Weapons of Our Warfare

This 1990 release was Christian music's answer to Metallica's "Master of Puppets". Deliverance came onto the scene with a burst of pure technical-thrash superiority. "Weapons..." is an album that demands respect from any true metal fan. The music was
absolutely brilliant (as was their debut s/t release a year prior). Jimmy Brown is to this day regarded as one of the best rhythm guitarists and lyricists in metal music. Jimmy's strong vocals resonate with the influences and power of such aritists as Queensryche's Geoff Tate. The album featured songs like the speed metal classic "This Present Darkness" and the intense title track "Weapons of Our Warfare". George Ochoa (formerly of Recon) was rippin out guitar leads that would forever rival any metal player out there. MTV had even taken notice in this young band from California and was giving the albums title track some pretty good rotation on the video show "Headbangers Ball". This is a rare album to find these days in its original form on Intense Records but it has been re-released through KMG music, so I suggest if you have never heard this, look it up and grab a copy. The great thing about Deliverance is that not only did they have the best songwriting skills around, they also saw many lost souls come to the Lord through their on-fire metal ministry. The lyrics throughout this CD are bold and evangelical. There is a lot of mid-paced thrash segments to groove on and some serious speed metal to really stir a pit. "Weapons Of Our Warfare" is now more sought after than many of the other secular thrash releases of that time! Recommended for fans of Anthrax, Slayer, Metallica, Ultimatum, etc.. -- Review by Norm
