Crimson Thorn - Dissection (1997)

This is arguably the single best death metal album of all-time. Complete brutality and ultra-technical musicianship make this cd a must have for all death metal fans. With literally a dozen time changes in the title track alone. The progressive and technical
elements of this recording can not be ignored. There are even some pure grind parts with insane blast beats that just blow every other contender off the map. Luke Reno's vocals are completely untouched and no vocal effects are used! This guy has the guttural growl down! A few tracks incorporate some groove elements which actually inhances the flow of this disc. The guitars are downtuned with a wall of distortion but remain very decipherable (unlike thier first disc, which was muddied by poor production). There is also some very well placed "harmonic squeals" that emit from the guitars. The double kick drum sounds incredible and the fills on the toms are simply amazing as well. The production is good for a small label and the sonics are superb. Lyrically this is total evangelistic metal and is straight up full on for the gospel of Christ. Recomended for fans of Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse and even the mighty Suffocation.... because Crimson Thorn blows them all away! -- Review by Norm
